  12. SUBJECT: MIS - Archive and additional sources of Bulletins

  14.      Persons with access to the Internet computer network can retrieve
  15. RACES Bulletins and the RACES Bulletins By Topic material from the
  16. RACES Archive.  The Archive collection includes all of the RACES
  17. Bulletins ever issued, all RACES Bulletins in the "by topic" format,
  18. model RACES plans, and other items of interest.
  19.      This material is accessible by anonymous FTP to UCSD.EDU.
  20. The material is located in the "hamradio/races" directory.
  21.      In addition to packet distribution, RACES bulletins are
  22. posted in the Internet newsgroup "rec.radio.amateur.misc".
  23.      The RACES Bulletins are posted by Roy Engehausen, AA4RE
  24. (enge@almaden.ibm.com) and the Bulletin By Topic material is posted
  25. by Steve Schindler, WD4MJJ, (steve@vulture.ksc.nasa.gov).

  27.      Note: Whereas the mnomic address "RACES" is used in the packet
  28. radio "TO" line, we point out that they are not written solely for
  29. and by RACES personnel.  They are written for and by all manner of
  30. COMMUNICATIONS VOLUNTEERS IN GOVERNMENT SERVICE.  This is the
  31. primary reason the State of California changed the name in 1990
  32. from the State RACES to the State Auxiliary Radio Service.  The
  33. AUXRS includes all manner on hams, non-hams, CAP, commercial, state
  34. and federal government frequencies and resources.  We urge all
  35. levels of government to take this broad approach to augment their
  36. regular communications.  We had at one time proposed changing the
  37. mnomic from RACES to COVIGS, but PBBS sysops all over the country
  38. said, "Don't! Our software automatically routes and stores all RACES
  39. Bulletins and messages addressed to RACES.  Please don't change.
  40. Far be it from us to thwart the unsung heroes of the Amateur Radio
  41. Service  ---  the packet radio sysops!
